Fresh Air Ventilation systems (Demand Control Ventilation)
Most HVAC systems provide ventilation based on assumed occupancy, rather than how many people are actually in the room at any given time. In a restaurant, theater or retail store, occupancy can vary widely during business hours.
Installing a DCV system with a carbon dioxide sensor provides an accurate reading of a room’s occupancy level. The CO2 sensor drives an outside damper motor, controlling the amount the damper is opened—and the amount of fresh air introduced—based on output from the CO2 sensor.
By controlling the amount of outside air that enters the room for conditioning this way, you can improve both energy-efficiency and indoor air quality.
